VIDEO FORMATS
The basic Windows Video format AVI, is an uncompressed format, which means that video files saved in this way tend to be very large, for example, a 90 minute movie may occupy in the region of 20GB, whereas a DVD film in compressed MPEG-2 video format can typically occupy less than 5GB. The trade-off of course is, the more compression you apply, the more you degrade the picture quality. Its all relative, of course, as you can't really complain about the quality of a typical DVD when compared to its VHS version.
One of the most popular compression formats of the moment is DivX, which is able to compress, say, 20GB of AVI video into about 700MB (CD capacity). DivX has gained massive popularity due to its increased role in Movie, Film and Video Downloading, enabling users to download large files much faster than previously, and due to its very efficient compression, burn them on to CD-R disks, or even burn multiple movies onto one DVD disk.
DVD RIPPING AND DVD BURNING
DVD ripping is the art of decoding the data that is encoded into a DVD disk and transferring all or part of that content to another medium or storage area. Sophisticated software exists for doing just this, with some companies specialising in just this type of Video format conversion. DVD's come in varying forms, but in the main, come in "VIDEO DVD" format for Movies, and "Data DVD" format for playing on PC's. The Data type of DVD can still contain Video and audio formats, but cannot be played in a domestic type DVD player, unlike a Video DVD.
A high quality DVD burning program is a good investment for any self respecting movie buff. One of the market leaders in this area is NERO 7 , and for good reason, as well as a comprehensive menu building system, it includes a "recode" facility, enabling users to convert different types of video files, including those formats stored on existing commercial DVD's.

Movie Review - Kill List (2012) (Not Rated)
A monkey wrench is thrown into the plot of Kill List very early on. It's a scene in which a woman, who up until now we believed was merely a regular person, carves a satanic symbol into the backside of a mirror hanging in her friends' bathroom. For the next hour, we follow a plot that shows little if any connection to this scene. When you spend all your mental energy trying to formulate some kind of explanation, you're liable to have a hard time concentrating on what else is happening.

Movie Review - The Innkeepers (2012) (R)
I've noticed that when a filmmaker has the temerity to develop horror movie characters beyond what would be required of them in slashers, which is usually nothing, the films are deemed slow, uneventful, and completely lacking in thrills and chills. Have we lost our ability to care about what happens to these people, to appreciate the anticipation of a scary moment, to savor suspense as it builds to a screaming climax?

Movie Review - Chronicle (2012) (PG-13)
Chronicle makes a compelling case for what would happen if a group of teenage boys were to suddenly attain superhuman powers. They would not stare at each other in awe, as if they had just been touched by the hand of God. They would have fun with it, not just at their expense, but also at the expense of others. Initially, the boys in this film behave like the cast of Jackass, using their powers to pull dangerous stunts strictly for cheap thrills and a few laughs. They even pull pranks on unsuspecting people.

Movie Review - The Woman in Black (2012) (PG-13)
An early twentieth century setting. English marshland shrouded in fog. Rain, thunder, and lightning. A graveyard shrouded in ivy and dead twigs. A decaying mansion high atop a hill. Rooms blanketed in dust and cobwebs. Dark hallways faintly lit by candlelight. The sounds of whispers and crying bouncing off the walls. A shadowy figure stalking the premises. From the first frame to the last, The Woman in Black looks and feels exactly the way a horror movie should look and feel.
